Become a Friend: The 'Red Star'

Cheers to CC who mentioned that most blotanists may be unaware of the meaning behind the Red Star found alongside some of our listed blogs. While there is a page explaining what it's for and how to obtain one for your blog it has been blocked by login stuff - bad code, my bad!!

Basically, it's recognising those blogs who have gone out of their way to promote Blotanical. One way of showing your support is to add one of the banners into your blog's sidebar. However, to receive a Red Star there is a little more that needs to be done, and I'm going to make it a little tougher in future.

So, to get a Red Star for your blog here's what you will need to do;

  1. Write a post about Blotanical with at least 250 words in the post.

  2. Make the post enlightening about your use of Blotanical and some of the features that you find useful.

  3. While not essential, try and be creative with your post rather than adopting the attitude that it is just something that is a necessary obligation. Remember, you're trying to encourage others to join Blotanical so that it will benefit the garden blogging community.

  4. You don't have to be completely positive, in fact if there are areas that you find hard to use or could be improved then feel free to write them. It won't go against you getting your Red Star. However, if you are completely negative and harshly critical you won't be enjoying one anytime soon.

  5. Finally, the post must contain a link to Blotanical.com so that your readers can navigate their way easily from the post

It's still pretty simple to get one and for those who have them they certainly do help in their rankings and site visibility. Once you've published your Blotanical post, let me know either through the Help Desk, or via a Message and I will add it on if I haven't already spotted it.

Thanks for explaining about the red star, Stuart! I'd just assumed it meant that those blotanists had gotten the most picks for their posts, been most favorited, posted most, or, er, something. The reality would never have dawned without your explanation here!

I would like to say that having the red star on the current list of posts certainly makes your post jump off the page onto your clicking finger!
