2008 Blotanical Awards - Nominations are Open
Okay, so I brought this forward by 24 hours but I didn't think anyone would mind too much. After setting up the date timer I realised that it was going to expire in the middle of my Monday here in down-town Busselton - not ideal from the bosses point of view.
Anyway, the inaugural Blotanical Awards are up and running. For the next 3 weeks - until Sunday 21, September (Busselton Standard Time) - the nomination form will be available for you. You don't have to complete it all in one sitting. You can leave and return at your leisure provided you click the "CONFIRM MY SELECTIONS" button (located at the bottom of the form) after each update. You can even come back and change some of your selections during the nominations stage.
Once the nomination period has expired, the voting phase commences and will last for only 1 week concluding on Sunday 28, September (Busselton Standard Time).
RULES
- Your own blog(s), and member aliases, will be missing from the lists. This is to force everyone to vote for someone else's blog or membership rather than their own. Some of the network blogs may be available for some of the contributing bloggers but if these are nominated by them they will be discounted before final voting commences.
- Apart from the Best Blog Post category which will have 10 finalists, all the other award categories will offer 5 finalists. In the event of a tie for 5th place, the blog or member who has been listed on Blotanical the longest will be awarded the voting spot.
- For those bloggers who have more than one membership only one (randomly selected by me) shall be counted. Therefore, if you don't want me to choose which one should stay then it may be in your best interests to just nominate with the one membership rather than your multiples.
- In the event that the timer expires before the subsequent pages are removed from further nomination or voting, any selections made after the final time shall be void and therefore deducted.
- Gardening Tips 'n Ideas does not show in any of the lists to ensure the fairness of the competition
For this year, and perhaps future years, no prizes will be granted to recipients of these awards. I shall consider this for future awards but for the time-being I'm keen to 'walk' before we start 'running'. Award recipients will receive a banner for their blog, and possibly for their Plot, which they may or may not choose to exhibit.
I wish you all the best and look forward to finally awarding our very first Blotanicals. If you have comments or questions about these awards please leave them here rather than at the Help desk. I will endeavour to respond as soon as is possible.

Hmmmmm. How do you access the nomination form? I'm not seeing links anywhere.

Maybe I'm just up too late, but I can't find the nomination form on the site, Stuart. It looks like the countdown is still ticking away.

Sorry ladies. I had a few issues uploading the relevant files. It's all fixed now and links can be accessed via the post above, from the Home page or via the Popular tab. Happy nominating.

Hi Stuart, It is apparent that you have put a great deal of time and thought into setting this up. It is going to be very tough to select from all the wonderful blogs that are out there now. Since I have been picking older posts with the search bloggers feature, I have discovered so many wonderful blogs and posts from all over the world. This is going to take some careful thought and lots of blog reading, maybe your intent. ;->

Guilty as charged, your honour!

Hi Stuart
I've just had my first stab at this (yes, it's very hard!). I notice that under the 'best writing' category I only have a choice of Canadian blogs. Is that right? I'm guessing that everyone will only be able to see writers from their own country, not that you think only Canadians are eligible!! But assume that this list shouldn't be limited?

Stuart, congrats on another great way to bring garden bloggers together and recognize outstanding contirbutions! But we think it's you who should receive an award for doing more than anyone else to promote garden blogging and to create an online gardening community. Kudos, and thanks for your hard work!!!

I like all the categories you came up with. Great!

Oops! Good pick up Amanda. Yes, that was a mistake but has been rectified now. It had obviously been sabotaged by those Canadian bloggers - lol :-)

Stuart, I have been guilty of not being very active in Blotanical since I first joined. But I would like to participate in the awards voting. Is there any way to add more nominations? Two categories do not include bloggers who are very deserving of those awards. Thanks!

Sure. What categories did you have in mind?

Hi, Stuart.
I didn't see Gail of Clay and Limestone on the Best Commenter list. Also, I was going to nominate "Faire Garden's Midsummer's Night" for best post, but perhaps that list is restricted already.
Thanks for responding and for compiling all of these!

Sorry Rose. The first category doesn't list Gail because she hasn't created an Alias in her Plot profile. I can't list people's names where they haven't given permission to do so.
As for the posts, it has already been limited to the Top 100 posts with the most Picks. Otherwise the list would have more than 26,000 posts to syphon through - a little overwhelming for even the most astute voter!

Dear Stuart, I've been missing in action most of the summer for health reasons, but I just wanted to give you yet another shoutout for all the hard work you've done. I'm so totally impressed with all of this! Now comes the hard part--picking out who I think deserves nominating most of all. That gives me something to do while I wait to go to the hospital again.... ;-(
