Haiku winner and posts
In last month's newsletter I announced a Haiku competition asking entrants to write a Haiku poem that illustrated the season they now found themselves in. Alas, we only received 3 entries (plus Frances' who I discounted because it had already been published) so here they are;
Summer Haiku
A fine year for snails.
Drip, heat, more drip; earth compacts.
Late green tomatoes.
Lucy Corrander - Loose and Leafy
Queen Autumn
Autumn robes the trees
In fiery reds and golds
Signaling her reign
Cindy - Walk Down the Garden Path
Hummingbirds
The beating of wings
hovering above red blooms
hummingbirds will feast
I gave the task of choosing a winner over to my wife (an independent and impartial judge). And her choice for this competition...drum roll, please...goes to Vanillalotus with Hummingbirds. A big congrats and your $50 Amazon voucher is in the mail.
Thanks to our other 2 contestants and stay tuned for next month's competition.

Thanks Stuart, and thank your wife too. I'm really excited, I'm not a good writer at all or poet so I'm truly surprised. Thank you! I'll have to ponder on what plant, gardening, and botanical illustration book/books I should get.

Stuart - I completely forgot. When I saw the announcement I'd intended to do something and then thought no more about it. Not that I think I could have beaten these, but it would have been fun trying.
I wonder if perhaps I wasn't the only one and that was the reason why you didn't get many entries. Do it again - pleeze?
