November Acrostic Poems

In Blotanical's last newsletter we started a competition asking Blotanists to write an acrostic poem using the letters of their favourite plant or flower. On offer was the hot new release Planthropology by Ken Druse which only came out at the start of this month.

I have listed them in the order in which I received them and, as I know some of you too closely, I have again asked my wife to judge them on their merits and she has picked...drum roll...DAISY by Cindy. Congratulations Cindy, I will email you soon to get some further details so that I can send it off to you.

Thanks for the wonderful entries and I hope you all take the opportunity for the next competition starting very soon. Check your newsletter for details...

ZINNIA

zip trop ping prooph
In the tiny trench, seeds are sewn

Notice the skinny, wispy floating object as it
naps in its new home. Hope.

In a few months that pass too quickly
A flower will reveal its Hope right there my tiny plot

Dig this Chick

IRIS

Ideas tumble and mingle, where,
Reality hath no part.
Images born of long-ago dreams,
Still warm my Winter heart.

Norvona Jackson

STOCKS

Scent so lovely
Transports me to another time.
Only you know the secret your scent
Contains, the memories it brings,
Keepsakes of my youth, pressed blossoms
Stems of affection from my lover.

Kim

CHIVES

Cheerful, bright & beautiful
High up above the leaves
Included in the herb bed
Vibrant purple clusters
Edible in
Salads...

ECHEVERIA

Each new leaf a perfect replica on
Crowns spiraling in
Hues of blue and violet, mahogany and grey.
Elegant,
Voluptuous variations
Effortlessly unfold with
Rising stalks of blooms
In iridescent gold, peach,
Amber.

Blue Fox

DAISY

Does he love me? She asked her flowers
Alabaster white petals carpet the grass
Indecisive blooms. One says yes, the next no
Summer questions pondered, while garden fairies play
Yellow Daisy centers are all that remain.

Cindy

GERANIUM

Generous, constant bloomer;
Each tight, unopened bud
Reveals a perfect palette,
Alluring white to red as blood.
Never fails to please
In summer heat or autumn haze,
Unrivalled, I look forward to
More fine geranium days.

Nancy

AGAPANTHUS

Autumn.
Green leaves turn to flame and burn
And die, falling from branches bare and skeletal.
Pumpkins leer with toothy grins
And flicker drunkenly as the
North wind warns of winter's chill.
Trees groan, as starlings swoop in
Hordes, and squawk and swirl then leave
Under a glowering sky. And all is silent,
Sleeping, hushed. Till spring.

Sue

Thanks again for all those who participated and stay tuned for this month's competition.

UPDATE:

My sincerest and humblest apologies for missing Jill's entry - I'm not sure how it got overlooked but obviously got lost within my expansive email tray. There's a $20 Amazon voucher on its way just to say sorry for missing you out of the judging.

Here's Jill's entry;

DAFFODILS

Dancing; nodding with the breeze in celebration.
A cheery yellow trumpet
Fanfares the season's return.
From vain Narcissus languishing
Outshining even the sun,
Declares new hope
In Echo's unrequited
Love. At long, last it's
Spring.
