Feedburner Migration Deadline
THIS ONLY AFFECTS BLOGS THAT USE
THE FEEDBURNER SERVICE
For Blotanists who have been around for a little while you may remember the problem we had when Google started trying to migrate feeds last September. Well, the problem is about to rear its ugly head again, except that this time we have been warned about it.
Bloggers who use the Feedburner service have now been given until 29 February, 2009 to transfer their feed. Failure to do so will result in a 404 error being produced by sites who read them - namely this one.
There is a handy tutorial to transfer the feed and once completed the only change you need make within Blotanical is to update your Blog Feed url in your Plot > My Blogs to reflect the updated url that Feedburner will now provide.
If you have any problems with this, please report them via the Help Desk.

(whiny voice). *Stuart, I don't understand this stuff at all.* I promise to do the reading and try to get it all sorted out with my own blog, and hopefully it won't cause any problems. As proof that I don't understand some of this stuff, I went to look at my blog settings, saw something about Pinging, pressed the button....sorry about that. How I can be so tech-savvy in some ways and such a tech-luddite in others....

Stuart, I played around with this for longer than I care to share. I found another website that had similar (but perhaps a little clearer) tutorial..
http://www.conversationalmediamarketing.com/2009/01/feedburner-rss-feed-transition-to-google-what-you-need-to-do.html think I am up and running,....do I need to add the new feed address to the blotanical site? will check around to see

Is this the same problem? I remember "fixing" it last fall and providing a new URL--is this the same thing, so I'm ok?

Stuart,
I just wanted to let you and others know that Google has made it pretty easy to do this. I had no problems.
Cheers,
Tessa

Does this mean we will have to chose again between people who come to our blogs through Blotanical and the others who don't belong to Blotanical but have direct feeds to our blogs?
I'm going to feel really awkward about asking my non-Blotanical readers to go through all this again!

@Lucy - this has nothing to do with Blotanical, this is a Feedburner issue only. Those who DON'T use the Feedburner service have nothing to worry about and won't need to make any changes.

Phwew!
Thanks Stuart.
I'd come back to re-read this page because I suddenly thought I might have misunderstood.
It's just that I didn't have a Feedburner feed, then I did, then I didn't . . . and panic leapt at me when I read the words 'Feedburner' and 'Blotanical News'.
I'll now go and rest with a cold flannel across my brows so I can get over the shock - and bask in the relief!
Lucy
(Perhaps this page should have a huge notice across the top saying 'DON'T PANIC!' because I don't expect I'll be the only one to break out in a sweat and find their brains have shut down when they see the dreaded word Fe . . ..)

Thanks Stuart, I think one of the problems was I didn't have designpro and the screen in the tutorial wasn't what was coming up for me. All better.
Glad you are back up and running too.

Um, I have o idea what Feedburner is. Does this mean I have it? How can I tell?

Feedburner really lives up to its name doesn't it? I can't even go to the bathroom without google wipes. They have figured out how to live inside everything.

I edited my feed to my new feedburner address in Blotanical. Hope that was the right thing to do?

Uh Stuart ... i don't want to be picky but 29 Feb 2009 doesn't exist ... Sure the date shouldn't be April 1st ???
Just joking - in any case it's a drag for anyone using Feedburner. After the problems last year, I messed around with my feed so much that I'm really not sure what I'm on any more. I think I'm OK - we'll all find out on March 0th.

Hi Stuart. Question? Was my ping button supposed to disappear in this process and are my posts eventually going to show up on Blotanical again. Just wondering if I goofed or if this is part of the process?
Posted by: Gail | February 13, 2009 9:09 PM
No. Your Ping button was not supposed to disappear in the process and is the first sign that something is wrong with your feed.
Yes. You did goof it up but it wasn't that bad. You had typed in the first part of the url correctly http://feeds2.feedburner.com/ but had forgotten to include the ClayAndLimestone after the forward slash. I have rectified this for you and it should start working again real soon.
