Nominations are now open...
Spring has sprung here in down-town Oz and Blotanical has started its 2nd Annual Blotanical Awards nominations process.
My apologies for the confusion re: missing names on lists but I realised this as I was running out of time yet aware that the 1st September had already ticked by. I have now since made the appropriate changes so if you think you should be on a list - and you're not - then please let me know. If you're on the list, your blog or Blotanist name should be disabled so that you are unable to vote for yourself. (Nancy had correctly identified the issue previously, but this year I was keen to allow you to at least see that you were on a particular list).
Nominations will stay open for three (3) weeks so I would suggest that you start talking it up in your blogs and encourage your readers to come on over and vote for you. I haven't created a badge this year: (a) I ran out of time, and (b) most of your blogs are Wordpress.com or Blogger platforms and don't accept scripts anyhow. If you would just like an image (160px square) with a clickable link then let me know and I shall make it available within the next few days.
Some of you have noticed the new US state-by-state options. In future years I would like to break this up for most regions (ie. Europe might be per country while the UK may be per county). Obviously, we don't want to spend the full three weeks here nominating so it may become a feature that can only be voted on by those that live within that region - keen to know your thoughts on that!!!
Once this nomination phase has been completed, voting will commence. This final stage will last for a week, (7) days, and will be limited to the blogs and Blotanists who secured the top 5 positions during this nomination phase.
I wish everyone the best and look forward to seeing whether last year's winners shall be toppled or whether they will have proved their worth. Have fun....

Just a note, Stuart: I have noticed that there are at least 3 people missing, even with your recent 'corrections'. There is one in Oregon. There is one in Washington. And there is one in Virginia. I won't give names at the moment because I've already emailed them to you, in the hopes that you'll see these. Perhaps there are even more folks missing from other states.
I suggest to everyone reading this: Check your name to see if it's in the list for your state, and/or your country. If there are still 3 names missing even after Stuart's newest message, it's possible there may be more.
Hope this is helpful info. to someone. And remember, I live in Virginia, so I'm not referring to myself;-) I simply believe that if these awards are going to be perceived as 'legitimate' and in any way close to 'meaningful', EVERY Blotanical member should be afforded equal opportunity.

I sent you a notice I think yesterday that my blog, Daphne's Dandelions, wasn't on the list. I checked a second ago and it is still missing. It is in the Category award lists, but not the other ones.

Ahhhhh - now I'm in the right place to say this, so here goes...
Crumbs Stuart you have been hard at work!
It looks like I can't vote for myself when the votes are for personal names (as expected) BUT it does look like I can merrily nominate Veg Plotting when voting for blogs. That is, Veep is greyed out thus confirming I'm there, but suggesting I can't vote, BUT Veg Plotting is in the same shade of black as everyone elese's blog names and it'll let me select it for voting.
I haven't saved Veg Plotting as my selections as I don't want to muck my voting for the blogs I actually want to nominate.
I'll hold off doing any further 'testing' for now - can you confirm that no-one can actually vote for their own blog please?

I'm a bit confused as well -- I cannot vote for my own self in the personal names categories, as Veep has said (nor would I, anyway). But I can vote for my own blog wherever it is listed in a category. (I selected them all only to see where Soliloquy and my other blog had been included.) Just curious. :) Bald yet?

In relation to some of the comments re: blogs not showing in appropriate US states - some bloggers when they submitted their blog details chose not to type in their state or chose something else as their state. For instance, I've had Pacifice Northwest, Eastern US, Southeast etc as state names. Last time I looked they weren't part of the 52 confederate states.
So, while you may be wanting to nominate them, I can't edit them for moral and ethical reasons unless the blog owner is wanting to have their location publicised. If you own a blog and you're not showing for a certain state then please contact me either through comments here or via the Help Desk.
As for Massachusetts bloggers - it was my fault. I spelled your state incorrectly but it has now been rectified.

Thanks, Stuart!

Am I able to nominate someone for a category if they haven't put themselves forward for that particular list?

Thanks for your help Stuart;-) One person from my list has responded & been added to their own state, so it's up to the others to do it for themselves. Appreciate your explanation.

Lucy - afraid not. The code has already been compiled and any alterations now would through it out. This is why the process had to precede this nomination phase.
