A Few Nomadic Gardeners

Here's 7 new garden bloggers from around the world; three based in the US, another Ontarian, our first from Turkey, another Estonian and one from my stomping ground - Perth.

In this update, it's interesting to see two bloggers who have been uprooted from their respective hometowns and are now transplanted in new gardens - and both in new continents. The first is now living in Enid, Oklahoma after moving from Melbourne, Australia. And the second is living in Istanbul, Turkey having transferred from Seattle.

Both of these blogs should be interesting as they contrast the differing climates, soil types, plant species and various pests that they will have to deal with.

But, don't just stop with these two - there are 7 more to add to your feed reader.

Tennessee gets their first garden blog

Knoxville has finally put Tennessee on the map as we begin to fill in the inland blanks in the US. It's interesting to see the main centres; North-East, West and Southern States become a little congested with gardeners wanting to share their blogs. So when an interior blogger adds their location it sticks out like a sore thumb. It's great to have you on board American Swede.

Canada offers up 2 more blogs: one in Alberta and the other from New Brunswick. England's Chippenham, Wiltshire adds another to the UK and just when you thought we had all the Austin gardeners, up surfaces another. Austin Texas must be the most tech-savvy gardening area in the world as we are now graced by 11 gardeners from this area.

Welcome all.

Three "1st's" this week

It's always exciting when you break new ground and this week has been no exception. Starting with Europe, we now have our 'first' blog for Estonia (I had to Google map Estonia as I thought it was a country in Africa - lol!) and also our 'first' blog from Croatia.

Even the US chimed in with a 'first' as Utah now sports its very first gardening blog in this directory. Welcome also to Renton, WA and Oakville, Ontario.

A quick note to some blogs that have registered but haven't been published. The hold up may be for a variety of reasons but the main one that seems common is due to new blogs that either have only one post so far or others that aren't quite fitting into one of the categories yet. For some, they will go on to be published while others may not be accepted at all.

If you feel like your blog hasn't been treated correctly feel free to email me to discuss.

Welcome to our first South African blog

Not only is Soekershof; the scientific back up our first South African garden blog but also our first ever blog on the continent of Africa. It's always more effort creating a whole new map so I resist it as much as possible. But in this case, I'm stoked to introduce a map for a whole new continent. Welcome aboard.

Also, Hobart which is the southern most capital city in Australia is featuring with it's first garden blog. It's also our first for Tasmania.

Then we have our usual smattering of US blogs bringing the total to 132 (more than half of all our listed garden blogs). It's great to see Barrie from Gardenmob has joined the directory. Gardenmob is a regular read in my feed reader and I love Barrie's descriptions and anecdotes about his roses.

200+ blogs as the directory matures a little

Two hundred sites in a directory is hardly a cause for celebration. However, when it's a directory that's so focussed on a very tight niche - garden blogs - it comes back into perspective.

Garden blogs are a very dynamic social group that is far more creative than many other blog niches. We like to show off pictures of our blooming plants, talk about earthworms and how great their waste management system is, and then discuss issues such as GM foods. How more different can we become?

The benefit of having more than 200 blogs listed in the directory means we can never run out of things to read or new people to meet either. So, if you're feeling a little lonely in this vast gardening blogosphere go and make friends with a new garden blogger. Here's 10 more to befriend;

They garden in Las Vegas?

Well, apparently they do. And furthermore, they grow geraniums there.

My stereotypical view of the gaming metropolis has now been shattered and I'm keen to learn what else grows in Nevada thanks to the Geranium Blog, one of nine new blogs to be added this week.

New Zealand is now on the map with Tea Garden as too is the Maldives with Fredericks Orchid Flowers. The remaining blogs are dotted around the US from Shoreline, Washington to Bristol, Rhode Island.

I'm sure you will find a few new reads to add to your feed reader.

8 more garden bloggers to meet

Eight more garden bloggers with nine new blogs. As is becoming the custom with some of the non-English speaking blogs, they are translating their sites into our native tongue.

There are a few more from the US, one from Canada, Austin (the home of garden blogging) has added another, while Europe adds the two from Sweden and other from Finland. We're even graced by a new southern English garden blog.

Finland gets their first mention

It's always a pleasure to see new blogs come on stream from countries, states and regions that haven't featured before. And, it's even more exciting when the communicate in languages other than English. Which always makes me wonder how they completed the submission process in the first place. (Possibly because I'm limited to only 1 language).

This update sees a first for Finland in a town called Mankala, Kymenlaakso. The blog isn't written in English - so I hope they're saying nice things about us - but the images and garden photo's look great.

There are 2 more blogs from Canada, 5 from the US, 2 from Germany, and 1 each from Italy and England. Great to have you all on board...

Ireland gets its first gardening blog on the map

By far, the most exciting part of maintaining a blog directory is adding new blogs. And when it comes to gardening blogs the excitement extends further because the gardening blogosphere swells to include new writers.

It becomes even more exciting when you see the map swell (not only in the US) but it extends to areas that haven't been highlighted much before. Today marks the first Irish gardening blog - and hopefully not the last - and puts Ireland fairly on the map. If there are other Irish garden bloggers out there then take few minutes to add your blog.

This group of gardening blogs is sure to fire up a few people's feed readers as you meet some great new gardeners and share tips, stories and a few laughs. So without any further adoo here are the newest entries in the garden blog directory;
