I haven't found one that does a good job yet. Anybody else had any luck with one?

I don't fertilize our lawn, which has clover in it--as well as dandelions and other plants. It stays green, the clover feeds it, and every chance I get, I 'take back' more of the lawn--into garden. Bwah hah hah!

I grow lots of Palm Trees. The fertilizer I use on the lawn is the same fertilizer I use on my Palm Trees. I actually use this fertilizer for everything except my fruit trees which I use citrus fertilizer for them.

I understand synthetic fertilizers are like feeding your lawn on soda and potato chips. They may see a short lived spike, but it declines. And, synthetics only concentrate on feeding the grass, when you need to be feeding the soil to have a healthy lawn. I did an experiment last fall where I spread compost over one area of the lawn and left the other to regular fertilizers, aeration, and the usual lawn treatment. The compost applied area is much healthier and greener this spring.

I think concern about waterways are due to nitrogen runoff and from contamination from fertilizer that doesn't get in the lawn, but ends up on the sidewalk, goes in the gutter, and gets directly into the waterways.
